There are 3 vital guidelines to think about when measuring for roller shades : Firstly, use a steel measuring tape instead of a cloth tape because the material tape will stretch ; second, measure horizontally from left to right, and vertically from top to bottom ; 3rd, measure and note the width first, then the length.

When measuring for blinds, you may measure differently for inside mounted blinds than exterior mounted blinds.

While measuring for an inside mount, use the following laws : Measure from the top, or soffit ( the exposed underside of the overhead ), to the bottom ( window sill ). A reduction of 1-1 / 8″ is taken from the width of the fabric for the shades to operate correctly. This creates a “light gap” of 9 / 16″ on all sides of the shade. Be exact and measure the opening at 3 different places ( i.e. Towards the top, towards the bottom and in the middle ). Then note the narrowest of the 3 measurements. Also, don’t take your own repayments ; the factory will do this for you. This deduction is taken so the blind does not rub against the window surrounding.

To ensure that the material does not rub along the brackets when the shades are raised and dropped, the hardware must be placed in such a fashion as to cause significant light gaps at the fringe of the roller shades. This opening is often wider with the clutch lift system than with the spring roller. If you do not want this opening, you may want to consider an outside mount for your roman window shades.

When measuring for an exterior mount, it’s best to have the shades overlap the window by at least 1- half ” on each side. When there is no window sill, the shade should go beyond at the base of the window casing by at least 1- half “. You will probably want to add 1″ to the overall width if your fabric wants to cover a specific area since 1″ is instantly deducted from the width at the factory.
